In Greek mythology, Ganymede is the son of the Trojan king Tros, and he was called the “most beautiful of all mortals.”
He was loved by Zeus and kidnapped by Zeus, so that he could serve the gods and live on the Olymp forever.
The Ganymede legend was portrayed differently in ancient times: The most interesting was made by Correggio [Antonio Allegri], Paul Rubens, or Rembrandt, who all painted Zeus as an eagle, carrying off Ganymede as a baby.
In iconography, Ganymede is sometimes seen as a prefiguration of John [Johannes].
In my painting, Ganymede escapes the fangs of Zeus.
