This painting is inspired by Faith No More's epic album "Angel Dust".
The album shows a soft, blue airbrushed great egret on the front cover (photographed by Werner Krutein).
I remember I saw it as a teenager, and I just thought: "How cheeky is that?".
On the back is an image of a cow hanging on a meat hook (created by Mark Burnstein).
Bassist Billy Gould and drummer Mike Bordin said that the image on the rear of the album is not based on support for vegetarianism but rather a preview of the music, suggesting its combination of being "really aggressive and disturbing and then really soothing", the "beautiful with the sick".
And that's what swans are to me. They look so elegant and beautiful, but when they are protecting their environment, and you get too close, their wings can break your bones. They can switch to beast mode.
The wings of the swans were often the draft versions of the men with wings in former paintings.
